When debugging USB power delivery problems, a deep look into what is happening on the CC signals on the wire is helpful. Fortunately, the sigrok/pulseview software that works with many cheap USB logic analyzers has decoders for the USB PD protocol.

However, the logic "1" voltage on the CC lines during the PD handshake is only in the order of 1V - too low for most logic analyzers.

USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer: common questions

What microcontroller does the USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer use?

The USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer is built around the ATMEGA32U4-MU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer PCB?

The USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer measures 23 × 26 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer?

17 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer design files?

From the mschwingen/hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with mschwingen. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the USB-C PD Sniffer for Logic Analyzer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
