About the Function-Generator PCB

Function-Generator is an open source STM32 PCB design by MUDAL, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 85 mm, with 30 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32 Blue Pill, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the LM358, L7805, LM6171 and TL071. By type, the board carries 8 resistors, 7 connectors, 5 ICs, 5 capacitors, 2 transistors and 1 switch.

It belongs with the power & battery and test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

Custom Function Generator designed and developed by Olaoluwa Raji. This project is a complete embedded system solution with both hardware and software implemented by me. Relevant reference materials are included.

This custom function generator is capable of outputting sine, square, and triangle waves of variable amplitude and frequency. An extra requirement of this device is its ability to produce DC voltages of adjustable magnitude and polarity.

Function-Generator: common questions

What microcontroller does the Function-Generator use?

The Function-Generator is built around the STM32 Blue Pill, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Function-Generator PCB?

The Function-Generator measures 65 × 85 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Function-Generator?

30 components, from 22 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Function-Generator design files?

From the MUDAL/Function-Generator repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Function-Generator design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which MUDAL chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Function-Generator without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
