Open hardware embedded I/O controller for automation and IoT projects.

Open hardware embedded I/O controller for automation and IoT projects.

BASIX is an open hardware embedded controller built primarily with through-hole (THT) components and based on the PIC18F46K20 microcontroller, providing Ethernet, RS485 and other peripherals.

It was designed as an educational platform for learning embedded electronics, prototyping automation systems, and experimenting with industrial communication interfaces and isolated I/O.

Basix board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Basix board use?

The Basix board is built around the pic18f46k20-i/p, from the PIC family.

How big is the Basix board?

The Basix board measures 106.5 × 129.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Basix board?

95 components, from 43 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Basix board design files?

From the n-lucas/basix-board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Basix board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-W-2.0 license, which n-lucas chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Basix board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
