About the Dimension1800 PCB

Dimension1800 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by nearestexit, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 396.5 × 200.1 mm, with 124 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 122 diodes, 1 IC and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

This PCB accepts THT or SMD diodes. It requires either the use of an elite-pi (https://docs.keeb.io/elite-pi-guide) or a Raspberry Pi Pico. The elite-pi is positioned so that when it is soldered correctly, the USB-C port is easily accessible from the back of the PCB. The elite-pi is the recommended MCU for this PCB. The Raspberry Pi Pico is the backup in case the elite-pi becomes no longer available - it is positioned further inside the keyboard, so it would result in a "fixed" cable.

Dimension1800: common questions

What microcontroller does the Dimension1800 use?

The Dimension1800 is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Dimension1800 PCB?

The Dimension1800 measures 396.5 × 200.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Dimension1800?

124 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Dimension1800 design files?

From the nearestexit/dimension1800 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Dimension1800 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which nearestexit chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Dimension1800 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
