From the project

Code repository for the Overlord home automation system

This GitHub repository contains the code and documentation for a home automation project based on a custom board built around the ESP32-WROOM-32D processor. The board is designed to centralize home automation and provide control for various switches, low voltage devices, relay boards, power meters, and other modules. The primary goal of this project is to create a home automation system that is running as locally as possible while also providing an interface for existing home automation systems that can in turn control it in tandem.

Overlord: common questions

What microcontroller does the Overlord use?

The Overlord is built around the ESP32S3-Wroom, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Overlord PCB?

The Overlord measures 155.7 × 86.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Overlord?

187 components, from 56 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Overlord design files?

From the Nimfrodian/Overlord repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Overlord design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which Nimfrodian chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Overlord without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
