About the RP2040-TestPatternGenerator PCB
RP2040-TestPatternGenerator is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by nmur, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 52 × 50 mm, with 11 components from 7 distinct parts.
Its main chip is the rp2040-zero, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 1 IC and 1 switch.
From the project
A simple test pattern generator running on the RP2040 microcontroller
This is a simple test pattern generator that runs on the RP2040 microcontroller. It uses the PicoVGA cmake library for outputting a 15kHz 240p RGBS signal via a VGA connector. This tool is aimed to be used for rudimentary tests for checking basic CRT TV functionality, not for accurate calibration.
Its main features are: - Cheap: Approximately <$15 USD in parts, less if you already have some components or if you want to make a few. - Accessible: Open source. Soldering is easy enough even for a first timer. - Small: Roughly 2x2"/50x50mm in size. - Fast: Boots and changes patterns instantly. -…

RP2040-TestPatternGenerator: common questions
What microcontroller does the RP2040-TestPatternGenerator use?
The RP2040-TestPatternGenerator is built around the rp2040-zero, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.
How big is the RP2040-TestPatternGenerator PCB?
The RP2040-TestPatternGenerator measures 52 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.
How many components are on the RP2040-TestPatternGenerator?
11 components, from 7 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.
Where can I download the RP2040-TestPatternGenerator design files?
From the nmur/RP2040-TestPatternGenerator repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.
Can I use the RP2040-TestPatternGenerator design in my own project?
Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which nmur chose for the repository.
Can I test firmware for the RP2040-TestPatternGenerator without the hardware?
Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
