About the DandaCartBase PCB

DandaCartBase is an open source PIC PCB design by OldWer, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 84.7 × 65.5 mm, with 16 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC16F1826, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the GAL22V10. By type, the board carries 6 connectors, 3 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 switches, 2 resistors and 1 diode.

Dandanator Cartridge System

The DandaCart simply moves the onboard memory chip to a cartridge. The device remains fully compatible with the original Dandanator (including Multiply and joystick support). Now you can burn as many cartridges as you want and simply swap them out as necessary! There is also something very satisfying about inserting a real, physical cartridge to play a game.

DandaCartBase: common questions

What microcontroller does the DandaCartBase use?

The DandaCartBase is built around the PIC16F1826, from the PIC family.

How big is the DandaCartBase PCB?

The DandaCartBase measures 84.7 × 65.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the DandaCartBase?

16 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the DandaCartBase design files?

From the OldWer/DandaCart repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the DandaCartBase design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with OldWer. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the DandaCartBase without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
