About the CIS PCB

CIS is an open source PCB design by Ondulab, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 6-layer board measuring 210 × 41 mm, with 176 components from 58 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the U_0076, U_0131, U_0144, U_0134 and U_0081. By type, the board carries 86 capacitors, 50 resistors, 13 ICs, 10 inductors, 4 diodes and 3 transistors.

It belongs with the sensors and test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

Electronic repo for image sensor module for CISYNTH

The CYSINTH is an innovative tangible interface for creating music and visuals. Utilizing our CIS instrument, the CISYNTH generates a UDP stream containing thousands of values captured by both the contact image sensor and the inertial measurement unit, transmitted at frequencies of up to 1kHz. This stream can be used to generate music or display image streams in Max/MSP, Pure Data, and our Viewer.

CIS: common questions

How big is the CIS PCB?

The CIS measures 210 × 41 mm, has 6 copper layers and is 1 mm thick.

How many components are on the CIS?

176 components, from 58 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the CIS design files?

From the Ondulab/Sp3ctra_CIS_electronics repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the CIS design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which Ondulab chose for the repository.
