About the Control PCB

Control is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by pbrook, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 88.9 × 58.4 mm, with 45 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P-P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the AP1509, 74HC138 and TLC5940. By type, the board carries 16 transistors, 8 capacitors, 7 connectors, 5 ICs, 4 resistors and 2 diodes.

From the project

10mm lol board

10LOL display board (10mm rgb led charlieplexed display matrix) ====

Hardware designs and firmware for a modular matrix display board.

Each module consists of an LED carrier board and a driver board.

Supply voltage is 7-20V (with onboard switching regulator). TODO: Figure out actual power requirements, and if a single regulator can power multiple modules.

The control board Modules operate autonomously, module operates autonomously, accepting data over SPI. The modules can be programmed with unique addresses, allowing multiple modules on a single SPI bus.

Control: common questions

What microcontroller does the Control use?

The Control is built around the ATMEGA328P-P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Control PCB?

The Control measures 88.9 × 58.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Control?

45 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Control design files?

From the pbrook/10lol repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Control design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with pbrook. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Control without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
