About the Fsae pihat usbmod PCB

Fsae pihat usbmod is an open source Raspberry Pi PCB design by picafe, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 41.9 × 18.2 mm, with 3 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RASPBERRY_PI_4, from the Raspberry Pi family. Other key parts include the TPS5430DDAR. By type, the board carries 2 connectors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

This PCB is the external 20 V USB-C PD → 24 V boost module used with the main Pi HAT. It pairs a PDC004 V2 USB-C PD trigger (fixed 20 V) with an MT3608 boost module to generate 24 V for PoE injection on the base station antenna and for convenient bench power during testing. This is a companion PCB to the main Pi HAT.

Since the current here would be pretty low, I decided to use a MT3608 and PDC004 PD module (I already have one, and the design seems pretty good; really big power plane on bottom) on a separate PCB instead of putting a boost converter on the HAT.

Fsae pihat usbmod: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fsae pihat usbmod use?

The Fsae pihat usbmod is built around the RASPBERRY_PI_4, from the Raspberry Pi family.

How big is the Fsae pihat usbmod PCB?

The Fsae pihat usbmod measures 41.9 × 18.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fsae pihat usbmod?

3 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fsae pihat usbmod design files?

From the picafe/fsae-daq-hat repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fsae pihat usbmod design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with picafe. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Fsae pihat usbmod without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Raspberry Pi firmware against it before you order a PCB.
