About the Sten0 PCB

Sten0 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by pizzalover125, published on GitHub. It is a board, with 61 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 30 switches, 30 diodes and 1 module.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

sten0 is a minimalist stenography keyboard. it was meant to defeat the industry standard Uni v4 which is overpriced and unsymmetrical. it uses a 2-layer PCB and KMK firmware that converts to stenography with the industry-standard Plover firmware.

steno works by pressing multiple keys at once to create "chords" which create words. each key is associated with a specific sound. for example, to write "cat" press "K A T" all at once.

Sten0: common questions

What microcontroller does the Sten0 use?

The Sten0 is built around the RaspberryPi_Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How many components are on the Sten0?

61 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Sten0 design files?

From the pizzalover125/sten0 repository on GitHub, which has the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Sten0 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with pizzalover125. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Sten0 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
