About the Kicad PCB

Kicad is an open source PIC PCB design by PoJD, published on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 55 × 45 mm, with 23 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC18F25K80, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the MCP2562-E/P. By type, the board carries 8 capacitors, 5 resistors, 3 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 jumpers and 2 diodes.

KiCad 10 — text formats, readable diffs, ERC and DRC running in CI through kicad-cli without a GUI. The CI container image tracks the local major version, because KiCad refuses to open files written by a newer one.

The canfuel board is finished: schematic and PCB complete, ERC and DRC clean with zero unconnected items, 24 parts on 55 × 45 mm and two layers, fab/ generated and committed. ⚠ While a fabrication order is outstanding, do not edit the board files — fab/ describes the commit that was sent, and…

Kicad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Kicad use?

The Kicad is built around the PIC18F25K80, from the PIC family.

How big is the Kicad PCB?

The Kicad measures 55 × 45 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.5 mm thick.

How many components are on the Kicad?

23 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Kicad design files?

From the PoJD/kicad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Kicad design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its Apache-2.0 license, which PoJD chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Kicad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
