About the Trinkey PCB

Trinkey is an open source STM32 PCB design by PythonAtSea, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 48.1 × 17.5 mm, with 21 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32C071G8UX, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the XC6206PXXXMR, USBLC6-2SC6 and 74AHCT1G125. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 4 ICs, 4 LEDs, 1 connector and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

Additionally, there are two more reverse mounted SK6812MINI-E next to the keyring. It also has a male USB-A plug which powers the device and provides USB FS connectivity.

The Trinkey has pads for flashing using Serial Wire Debug. If you're getting one of these thru Hack Club Gadget Market, it will be pre flashing with a bootloader that supports uploading code over USB using the Ardunio IDE. It will also have some sort of example program, but…

Trinkey: common questions

What microcontroller does the Trinkey use?

The Trinkey is built around the STM32C071G8UX, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Trinkey PCB?

The Trinkey measures 48.1 × 17.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Trinkey?

21 components, from 13 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Trinkey design files?

From the PythonAtSea/trinkey repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Trinkey design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with PythonAtSea. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Trinkey without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
