About the FloaltController PCB

FloaltController is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Qeteshpony, published on GitHub under the BSD-2-Clause license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 70 × 45 mm, with 39 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the R-78K3.3-0.5. By type, the board carries 11 capacitors, 10 resistors, 5 inductors, 3 transistors, 3 connectors and 3 diodes.

It belongs with the iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

Custom controller for IKEA FLOALT LED panels

A custom, ESP32 based controller for the 30 x 90 cm IKEA FLOALT LED light panel. This probably works with other sizes of the panel as well but i can't test this since I don't own any of them.

I created this since my original controller got fried by a thunderstorm and IKEA does not sell these anymore in Europe.

As a side effect this allows way better control over the panel than the original controller which kept the light very bright even at lowest settings. The board is created with KiCad 7 and with production and assembly by JLCPCB in mind. Some components have to be purchased elsewhere…

FloaltController: common questions

What microcontroller does the FloaltController use?

The FloaltController is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the FloaltController PCB?

The FloaltController measures 70 × 45 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the FloaltController?

39 components, from 25 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the FloaltController design files?

From the Qeteshpony/FloaltController repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the FloaltController design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-2-Clause license, which Qeteshpony chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the FloaltController without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
