About the MainsFrequencyMonitor PCB

MainsFrequencyMonitor is an open source ESP32 PCB design by Qeteshpony, published on GitHub under the BSD-2-Clause license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 65 × 50 mm, with 27 components from 22 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the EL357N(C). By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 7 resistors, 4 connectors, 2 ICs, 2 switches and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the test & measurement designs in this gallery.

Single board solution to power an ESP32 and use it to measure the mains frequency through an optoisolator

Part of the board has mains voltage on it so it is dangerous to handle the board outside of a proper case while powered! It lies in your own responsibility to use proper safety precautions when working on this project!

MainsFrequencyMonitor: common questions

What microcontroller does the MainsFrequencyMonitor use?

The MainsFrequencyMonitor is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the MainsFrequencyMonitor PCB?

The MainsFrequencyMonitor measures 65 × 50 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the MainsFrequencyMonitor?

27 components, from 22 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the MainsFrequencyMonitor design files?

From the Qeteshpony/MainsFrequencyMonitor repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the MainsFrequencyMonitor design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its BSD-2-Clause license, which Qeteshpony chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the MainsFrequencyMonitor without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
