About the First-Hackpad PCB

First-Hackpad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by RAdev-py, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 45.2 × 69.1 mm, with 7 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 4 switches, 2 diodes and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

First time using Fusion 360 to CAD and designing a PCB using KiCad.

A minimal macropad designed to speed up Mac workflows. It features dedicated hardware keys for Undo, Shift, Enter, and Command.

Powered by KMK Firmware (Python) and designed in Fusion.

The circuit is designed in KiCad. It uses a simple direct-pin connection (no matrix) to the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040. D3: Command D4: Z D2: Shift D1: Enter

A compact layout connecting the 4 MX-style switches directly to the microcontroller footprint.

First-Hackpad: common questions

What microcontroller does the First-Hackpad use?

The First-Hackpad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-DIP, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the First-Hackpad PCB?

The First-Hackpad measures 45.2 × 69.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the First-Hackpad?

7 components, from 3 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the First-Hackpad design files?

From the RAdev-py/First-Hackpad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the First-Hackpad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with RAdev-py. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the First-Hackpad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
