About the Focuspad PCB

Focuspad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by rakazenmun, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 97 × 68 mm, with 15 components from 5 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 7 switches, 6 diodes, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards and displays & leds designs in this gallery.

From the project

A six-key USB-C productivity macropad with an encoder and OLED, designed for Hack Club Hackpad.

Focuspad is a six-key productivity macropad built around the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040. It combines a 2×3 diode matrix, a pressable rotary encoder, and a 128×32 OLED in a compact 3D-printed enclosure.

I wanted a small desktop controller that keeps the shortcuts I use most within one hand. The default KMK layout provides Copy, Paste, Undo, Reopen Closed Tab, Find, and Enter. Turning the encoder changes volume; pressing it mutes.

Focuspad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Focuspad use?

The Focuspad is built around the Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Focuspad PCB?

The Focuspad measures 97 × 68 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Focuspad?

15 components, from 5 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Focuspad design files?

From the rakazenmun/focuspad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Focuspad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with rakazenmun. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Focuspad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
