About the Keyboard PCB

Keyboard is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by RasmusB, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 28 × 18 mm, with 27 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA32U4-MU, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 12 capacitors, 5 resistors, 4 connectors, 1 IC, 1 crystal and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

An Psion to USB keyboard controller

An ATmega32u4 based keyboard controller. This was designed for use with a Psion Series 5mx keyboard, but should work for other keyboards also.

PCB contains KiCad files for the device itself Firmware/Psion-Keyboard-Firmware contains an Arduino sketch for the firmware * Firmware/ScanTheMatrix is a sketch for scanning the matrix of a keyboard. This is only meant as a tool to map a keyboard with an unknown pinout.

Keyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Keyboard use?

The Keyboard is built around the ATMEGA32U4-MU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Keyboard PCB?

The Keyboard measures 28 × 18 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Keyboard?

27 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Keyboard design files?

From the RasmusB/USB-Keyboard-Adapter repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Keyboard design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with RasmusB. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Keyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
