About the Pico42 PCB

Pico42 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by rgoulter, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 224.6 × 72.2 mm, with 85 components from 3 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

Repo with my PCB designs and keyboard firmware

This repository contains the source files for keyboard designs and keyboard firmware.

Plotted gerber files can be found under the GitHub repository's releases.

Assembled PCBs for selected designs are available on the RGoulter's Keyboard Labs store.

- PCB smaller than 100x100 mm2, so that it's cheaper to fabricate at various PCB fabricators. - Reversible PCB (use the same PCB for left/right halves). - Using the WeAct Studio MiniF4 "black pill" dev board, a cheap STM32F4 dev board that runs ARM. - Low profile (PCB + choc switches + bumpons). - Column-staggered arrangement of key switches. -…

Pico42: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pico42 use?

The Pico42 is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Pico42 PCB?

The Pico42 measures 224.6 × 72.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pico42?

85 components, from 3 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pico42 design files?

From the rgoulter/keyboard-labs repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pico42 design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with rgoulter. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Pico42 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
