About the Se PCB

Se is an open source ESP32 PCB design by rinripper, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 33 × 100 mm, with 44 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ESP32-WROOM-32D, from the ESP32 family. Other key parts include the MAX6675ISA+T. By type, the board carries 14 resistors, 8 transistors, 7 connectors, 6 capacitors, 4 diodes and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the iot & wireless and power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

KiCad hardware design for the STARTER board — schematics, PCB layout, fabrication files and BOM across four design iterations

An automotive electronics product taken from blank schematic to fabricated, hand-assembled hardware running on motorcycles — across four revisions and several per-vehicle variants.

The board installs inline in a motorcycle's ignition harness. It unplugs the factory connector, sits between the key side and the bike side, re-presents every wire it does not need to touch, and intercepts only the starter trigger. On top of that intercept it layers an ESP32-WROOM-32D: wireless control, battery-voltage and engine-temperature monitoring, RPM sensing, and a relay path that stays gated by the…

Se: common questions

What microcontroller does the Se use?

The Se is built around the ESP32-WROOM-32D, from the ESP32 family.

How big is the Se PCB?

The Se measures 33 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Se?

44 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Se design files?

From the rinripper/STARTER repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Se design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with rinripper. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Se without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
