About the Stellar PCB

Stellar is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by Robostyle, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 158.8 × 119.9 mm, with 90 components from 12 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pro Micro NRF52840, from the Nordic nRF family. By type, the board carries 26 switches, 25 LEDs, 25 diodes, 6 capacitors, 4 connectors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards, iot & wireless and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Stellar is a 50 keys column-staggered split keyboard. It is meant to be used with a ProMicro, e.g. Nice!Nano compatible controller

- revision/made text is mirrored on laR. - add silkscreen text for identifying the key, e.g. SW1, etc. - set rotation on pinky to 10° instead to 5°. - move the extra row next to the pinky column a bit up (next to the homerow?).

Stellar: common questions

What microcontroller does the Stellar use?

The Stellar is built around the Pro Micro NRF52840, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the Stellar PCB?

The Stellar measures 158.8 × 119.9 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Stellar?

90 components, from 12 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Stellar design files?

From the Robostyle/stellar repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Stellar design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Robostyle. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Stellar without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
