About the Modular-Control-Module

Modular-Control-Module is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Roth-Amplification-Ltd, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 59 × 49.4 mm, with 39 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the TEMPLATE. By type, the board carries 14 capacitors, 12 resistors, 2 ICs, 2 switches, 1 crystal and 1 connector.

From the project

Modular-Control-Module or MCM is the Encoder + Button board inside all Roth Amplification pedals.

The Modular Control Module, or MCM, is the reusable encoder-and-button control board used inside Roth Amplification pedal designs. It combines six panel-mounted rotary encoders with an onboard RP2040 microcontroller and a compact host interface so pedal projects can share the same physical control surface and input-processing hardware.

- RP2040 microcontroller - Six Bourns PEC11L incremental rotary encoders with integrated push switches - USB-C connection for power, programming, and RP2040 USB data - External QSPI flash supporting RP2040 boot and program storage - SWD programming and…

Modular-Control-Module: common questions

What microcontroller does the Modular-Control-Module use?

The Modular-Control-Module is built around the RP2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Modular-Control-Module?

The Modular-Control-Module measures 59 × 49.4 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.567 mm thick.

How many components are on the Modular-Control-Module?

39 components, from 14 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Modular-Control-Module design files?

From the Roth-Amplification-Ltd/Modular-Control-Module repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Modular-Control-Module design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which Roth-Amplification-Ltd chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Modular-Control-Module without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
