It belongs with the sensors designs in this gallery.

From the project

A 7-channel 4-wire RTD temperature measurement device that communicates via the SDI-12 protocol, designed for underground temperature profiling applications.

A 7-channel 4-wire RTD temperature measurement device that communicates via the SDI-12 protocol, designed for underground temperature profiling applications.

This device is an SDI-12 sensor that provides high-precision temperature measurements from seven 4-wire RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) inputs. It is designed for underground temperature sensing applications such as soil temperature profiling, permafrost monitoring, and geothermal studies. The 4-wire RTD configuration eliminates lead resistance errors, enabling accurate measurements even with long cable runs to buried sensors.

Project-Gorgon-Hardware: common questions

What microcontroller does the Project-Gorgon-Hardware use?

The Project-Gorgon-Hardware is built around the C2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Project-Gorgon-Hardware PCB?

The Project-Gorgon-Hardware measures 89.5 × 49.5 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Project-Gorgon-Hardware?

116 components, from 38 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Project-Gorgon-Hardware design files?

From the RTGS-Lab/Project-Gorgon-Hardware repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Project-Gorgon-Hardware design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with RTGS-Lab. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Project-Gorgon-Hardware without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
