About the Waterflow PCB

Waterflow is an open source ESP8266 PCB design by Schluggi, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 38 × 65.8 mm, with 15 components from 10 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the WeMos_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family. By type, the board carries 9 resistors, 3 transistors, 1 IC, 1 connector and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the sensors, wearables and power & battery designs in this gallery.

The PCB has also some improvements: - Connection terminals to easily (dis)connect everything - Extra connection for a waterflow-sensors with a temperature sensor

Ready? Let's go. I always order my PCBs via JLCPCB, a chinese PCB manufacturer. 1. Create an account 2. Click "Order now" 3. Upload the zip file located inside the manufactoring directory 4. Optional: Choose a different color, an ECO-friendly lead-free surface finish and check that no order number is printed on the PCB (for aesthetic reasons).

Waterflow: common questions

What microcontroller does the Waterflow use?

The Waterflow is built around the WeMos_D1_mini, from the ESP8266 family.

How big is the Waterflow PCB?

The Waterflow measures 38 × 65.8 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Waterflow?

15 components, from 10 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Waterflow design files?

From the Schluggi/waterflow-pcb repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Waterflow design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Schluggi chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Waterflow without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug ESP8266 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
