About the Splitty ergonomic keyboard PCB

Splitty ergonomic keyboard is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by schodet, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 133.4 × 100.3 mm, with 89 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATmega32U4-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the USBLC6-2. By type, the board carries 33 switches, 32 diodes, 11 capacitors, 5 resistors, 4 connectors and 3 ICs.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

Split orthogonal keyboard, mirror of https://git.ni.fr.eu.org/splitty.git/

This is a split ergonomic keyboard based on the Ergodox layout without the thumb cluster. It uses 32 keys per sides with Cherry MX compatibles switches, thirty 1u and two vertical 1.5u caps.

The controller is integrated in order to make the keyboard as slim as possible.

It connects to the computer using a micro-B USB. Both sides are connected together also using micro-B USB. Any connection mistake should not break anything and the keyboard supports hot plugging.

Splitty ergonomic keyboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Splitty ergonomic keyboard use?

The Splitty ergonomic keyboard is built around the ATmega32U4-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Splitty ergonomic keyboard PCB?

The Splitty ergonomic keyboard measures 133.4 × 100.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Splitty ergonomic keyboard?

89 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Splitty ergonomic keyboard design files?

From the schodet/splitty repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Splitty ergonomic keyboard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which schodet chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Splitty ergonomic keyboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
