USB adapter for Keithley 179 and 177

The Keithley 177 and 179 Digital Multimeter have a GPIB option. If your meter has this option installed you may want to get a GPIB to USB adapter and use that. If your meter does not have this option installed then the Keithley 17x USB Adapter is for you. The original GPIB option was a daughter board that connected to the meter's main board using connector J1008. This connector is a 14 pin DIP socket located right behind the input terminals of the meter. Before continuing with the project I suggest you open up your meter and locate this connector. Below are pictures of the socket location on…

Keithley 17X USB: common questions

What microcontroller does the Keithley 17X USB use?

The Keithley 17X USB is built around the MSP430FR2110IPW16R, from the TI MSP430/CC family.

How big is the Keithley 17X USB PCB?

The Keithley 17X USB measures 70.5 × 44 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Keithley 17X USB?

38 components, from 24 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Keithley 17X USB design files?

From the sdp8483/Keithley_17X_USB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Keithley 17X USB design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which sdp8483 chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Keithley 17X USB without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug TI MSP430/CC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
