About the Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN PCB

Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN is an open source STM32 PCB design by sebastianbeyer, published on GitHub. It is a board measuring 78.7 × 81 mm, with 63 components from 26 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F103C8T6, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the LM4040-2.5, MCP3204-BI/P, MCP4822, LD1117V33 and MCP6004. By type, the board carries 24 capacitors, 23 resistors, 11 ICs, 2 transistors and 2 diodes.

From the project

This is a KOSMO (Look Mum No Computer) version of the Mutable instruments braids, based on the through-hole version done by sound-force.nl. It has only 12 bits resolution in the output because the chip is easier to work with and cheaper.

This project is so far only different to the soundforce version in that I removed the 3.5mm jack sockets and replaced them with molex connectors to get them connected to the larger 6.3mm jack sockets that KOSMO uses. And I made the larger KOSMO panel.

Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN: common questions

What microcontroller does the Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN use?

The Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN is built around the STM32F103C8T6, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN PCB?

The Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN measures 78.7 × 81 mm and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN?

63 components, from 26 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN design files?

From the sebastianbeyer/KOSMO_braids repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with sebastianbeyer. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Braids through hole V1.1 BRAIN without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
