About the Hackpad PCB

Hackpad is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by sharkie-0000, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 115.5 × 73 mm, with 20 components from 4 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the XIAO-RP2040-SMD, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 10 switches, 9 diodes and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

i created this project to practice pcb design, electronics and firmware and at the same time create something i will be able to use on my desk.

the concept of this project is quite easy – small macropad with custom keys, rotary encoder and custom pcb. you can use it to set up your shortcuts, macros, control devices, etc.

- 9 mechanical switches - 1 rotary encoder - XIAO RP2040 - 9 diodes - 4 mounting holes - custom PCB - 3D printed case

Hackpad: common questions

What microcontroller does the Hackpad use?

The Hackpad is built around the XIAO-RP2040-SMD, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Hackpad PCB?

The Hackpad measures 115.5 × 73 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Hackpad?

20 components, from 4 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Hackpad design files?

From the sharkie-0000/hackpad repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Hackpad design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with sharkie-0000. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Hackpad without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
