About the Aegis60 PCB

Aegis60 is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by ShlokVaidya, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 291.9 × 101.4 mm, with 132 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the RP2040-ZERO, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 62 diodes, 61 switches, 2 connectors, 1 IC and 1 resistor.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

Aegis60 is a compact 60% mechanical keyboard designed for minimal desk space. Built with a streamlined layout, it delivers responsive typing and full programmability in a small, elegant form factor. With dedicated status LEDs and customizable firmware.

I am 17 and I use my keyboard for school every day, so I wanted to build one that is actually mine from scratch.

Main goals I set for myself: - Design a full 60% PCB in KiCad (61 keys) - Use hot-swap MX footprints so it is easy to test switches - Keep the design manufacturable and not just a concept render - Learn the full pipeline: schematic -> PCB -> 3D model -> production files

Aegis60: common questions

What microcontroller does the Aegis60 use?

The Aegis60 is built around the RP2040-ZERO, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Aegis60 PCB?

The Aegis60 measures 291.9 × 101.4 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Aegis60?

132 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Aegis60 design files?

From the ShlokVaidya/Aegis60 repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Aegis60 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which ShlokVaidya chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Aegis60 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
