About the SmartWatch PCB

SmartWatch is an open source Nordic nRF PCB design by SimonBrenninger, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 60 × 60 mm, with 101 components from 63 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the NRF52810-QFXX, from the Nordic nRF family. By type, the board carries 27 resistors, 26 LEDs, 22 capacitors, 7 crystals, 6 inductors and 3 switches.

It belongs with the wearables and iot & wireless designs in this gallery.

From the project

a simple, Zephyr-powerd wristwatch

is a simple, digital wristwatch that uses LEDs to indicate the position of each clock arm.

The smartWatch incorporates an nRF52810 for handling BLE connectivity to send the monitored data regularly to the host device.

A future revision will include a biomedical sensor to enable even more smart functionalities i.e. SpO2 and heart-rate measurements.

SmartWatch: common questions

What microcontroller does the SmartWatch use?

The SmartWatch is built around the NRF52810-QFXX, from the Nordic nRF family.

How big is the SmartWatch PCB?

The SmartWatch measures 60 × 60 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6062 mm thick.

How many components are on the SmartWatch?

101 components, from 63 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the SmartWatch design files?

From the SimonBrenninger/smartWatch repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the SmartWatch design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which SimonBrenninger chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the SmartWatch without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug Nordic nRF firmware against it before you order a PCB.
