About the USB-C breakout

USB-C breakout is an open source PCB design by SolderedElectronics, published on GitHub under the TAPR-OHL-1.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 22 × 22 mm, with 4 components from 3 distinct parts.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

From the project

Hardware design, BOM, gerbers and 3D files for USB-C-female-connector-breakout designed by Soldered Electronics.

The USB Type-C is ubiquitous. We always wanted to add it to our electronics projects, and we’re sure you did too. Adding a USB Type-C connector to your projects is easier than ever thanks to this USB Type-C breakout board. It will allow you to send data to your device, as well as add power to the circuit.

The USB Type-C connector’s GND, CC2, SBU2, D-, D+, SBU1, CC1, and VUSB pins are broken out to the plated through-holes.

USB-C breakout: common questions

How big is the USB-C breakout?

The USB-C breakout measures 22 × 22 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the USB-C breakout?

4 components, from 3 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the USB-C breakout design files?

From the SolderedElectronics/USB-C-female-connector-breakout-hardware-design repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the USB-C breakout design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its TAPR-OHL-1.0 license, which SolderedElectronics chose for the repository.
