About the RoyBoard PCB

RoyBoard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by srxcode, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 369.5 × 136.6 mm, with 172 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 90 diodes, 81 switches and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

My very own keyboard made from scratch!

Its a mechanical keyboard that I made from scratch! Its basically a 75% tenkeyless keyboard with 81 keys in total, with 3 additional rotary encoders for different tasks such as volume control, brightness control and scrolling, of course these functionalities are subject to change. It has a few neopixels too! not per key RGB though, because i rarely use backlight and it was pretty daunting to route them up, considering the fact that i just started hardware back then, the ones which I have are meant for aesthetics. Currently, I have dropped the plan to solder them because I mirrored the pinouts…

RoyBoard: common questions

What microcontroller does the RoyBoard use?

The RoyBoard is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the RoyBoard PCB?

The RoyBoard measures 369.5 × 136.6 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the RoyBoard?

172 components, from 13 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RoyBoard design files?

From the srxcode/RoyBoard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RoyBoard design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which srxcode chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the RoyBoard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
