About the Heatsink PCB

Heatsink is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by Supermagnum, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 111 × 61 mm, with 15 components from 9 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_UNO_R3, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 3 connectors, 3 switches, 3 diodes, 2 transistors, 1 module and 1 buzzer.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

A DIY cooling suit.

Those are cooling suits, used in the lowest layer on space suits. It has hoses for circulation of cooling medium. A single layer of fabric may be used, with the tubing either on the inside directly contacting the wearer's skin, or on the outside separated by the fabric. If two layers of fabric are used, stitched channels can be formed which enclose the tubing between the two fabric layers. Where flame resistance is needed, the garment may be constructed out of materials such as nomex. If anyone has seen the apollo 13 movie, the boxes carried by the astronauts on the way to the space capsule…

Heatsink: common questions

What microcontroller does the Heatsink use?

The Heatsink is built around the Arduino_UNO_R3, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Heatsink PCB?

The Heatsink measures 111 × 61 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Heatsink?

15 components, from 9 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Heatsink design files?

From the Supermagnum/heatsink repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Heatsink design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Supermagnum. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Heatsink without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
