About the Copv2 PCB

Copv2 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by swagprincess, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 30 × 42 mm, with 22 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATTINY84A-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the LM393 and LM78M05_TO252. By type, the board carries 12 resistors, 6 capacitors, 3 ICs and 1 transistor.

Dwell converter/shaper for a stock ECU COP conversion on a Miata

This board lets you use a Toyota/Audi/etc "coil on plug" ignition system with the stock ecu in a Mazda MX5/Miata (1989-2005).

The board will take in a variable dwell signal for the stock coilpack and output a (falling edge synchronised) stable, adjustable dwell pulse.

Current setting is 70 "ticks" of TIMER1, around 2.2ms, correct for Toyota COP's at running voltages (should be good for Audi R8 coils too).

Copv2: common questions

What microcontroller does the Copv2 use?

The Copv2 is built around the ATTINY84A-SS, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Copv2 PCB?

The Copv2 measures 30 × 42 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Copv2?

22 components, from 11 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Copv2 design files?

From the swagprincess/coilonplug repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Copv2 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which swagprincess chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Copv2 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
