Piccolo MIDI stochastic sequencer

Project of a stochastic MIDI sequencer developped since a few years (2016) in solo I decided in 2023 to make its code and the schematics public and open to modifications by others

Piccolo is a polyrythmic errorist and stochastic MIDI sequencer, slightly verging towards a proto-programmable interpreter, very apt to generative and process-based music.the current version is based on the Teensy 4.1 architecture and MIDI protocol. The previous versions were relying on Teensy 3.5 and earlier ATmega2560. The step to Teensy3.5 had provided 10x more precision in time, and 10x more memory. the best…

Piccolo-4C-Black: common questions

What microcontroller does the Piccolo-4C-Black use?

The Piccolo-4C-Black is built around the TEENSY_4.1, from the NXP family.

How big is the Piccolo-4C-Black PCB?

The Piccolo-4C-Black measures 257.2 × 166.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Piccolo-4C-Black?

68 components, from 18 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Piccolo-4C-Black design files?

From the SylvainVanIniitu/Piccolo-4C-Black repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Piccolo-4C-Black design in my own project?

It is published under CC-BY-NC-4.0, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Piccolo-4C-Black without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug NXP firmware against it before you order a PCB.
