About the Fold-Board

Fold-Board is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Taran-the-Idiot, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 176.2 × 100 mm, with 134 components from 5 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 66 switches, 66 diodes, 1 IC and 1 connector.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

Here is a full CAD Build of the keyboard.\ It uses a rubber band to hold the 2 halves together and I am probably gonna have to work on the joint a bit when i get the parts.

The case is 44mm tall when layed flat out which is pretty good for a folding board. I made sure to keep the joint loose but strong enough to stay on so it doesnt wear down as much and stays nice. I suggest printing it from petg so you can get more slip.

Fold-Board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fold-Board use?

The Fold-Board is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Fold-Board?

The Fold-Board measures 176.2 × 100 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fold-Board?

134 components, from 5 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fold-Board design files?

From the Taran-the-Idiot/Fold-Board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fold-Board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which Taran-the-Idiot chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Fold-Board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
