About the Runtboard PCB

Runtboard is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by Taran-the-Idiot, published on GitHub under the Custom license license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 370.7 × 129.5 mm, with 189 components from 14 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. By type, the board carries 99 diodes, 82 switches, 7 connectors and 1 IC.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

The header pins are there to make it easier for my wires to reach the pico without having to do funny stuff with the routing and microcontroller. It in a way gives me a third layer to use for connections, which made my life way easier when designing this board.

This is what my pcb looks like. It has a basic silkscreen but i drew all of it on kicad no figma or anything.

Runtboard: common questions

What microcontroller does the Runtboard use?

The Runtboard is built around the Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Runtboard PCB?

The Runtboard measures 370.7 × 129.5 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Runtboard?

189 components, from 14 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Runtboard design files?

From the Taran-the-Idiot/Runtboard repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Runtboard design in my own project?

It is published under Custom license, which limits how it may be reused; read the license before building on it.

Can I test firmware for the Runtboard without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
