About the NEC PC Engine PCB

NEC PC Engine is an open source PCB design by tebl, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-1.2 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 58.4 × 38.1 mm, with 25 components from 11 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the 74HCT157. By type, the board carries 14 resistors, 4 modules, 3 connectors, 2 capacitors, 1 IC and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the retro computing, keyboards and test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

WASD-style joystick for vintage computers. With an added Arduino Pro Micro you can use it as a USB-keyboard, so if you wanted a DIY streamdeck or Macro-keyboard - then the C64 JoyKEY can do that as well.

The NEC PC Engine, primarily found in the japanese markets as well as everywhere fans of the shoot em up genre could be found, had several revisions and third party controllers though most stuck with the regular four button configuration (I, II, RUN and SELECT). A picture of the completed adapter has been included below, including the jumpers needed on the C64 JoyKEY device itself. Making on requires a cable with the right shape, the simplest way of obtaining these is either cutting up a cheap extension cables.
