About the RetroShield1802 PCB

RetroShield1802 is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by tebl, published on GitHub under the LGPL-2.1 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 99.7 × 53.3 mm, with 28 components from 11 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Mega2560_Shield, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 0.96_I2C_OLED and CDP1802. By type, the board carries 12 connectors, 8 resistors, 3 capacitors, 2 ICs and 2 diodes.

It belongs with the dev boards & breakouts and retro computing designs in this gallery.

From the project

Arduino Mega 2560 shield adding secondary 1802 processor to run the latest 1802-based software (most may be from the 70s).

Based on software and designs by Erturk Kocalar, this Arduino Mega 2560 shield adds a supplemental 1802 processor allowing you to run all the latest software developed for the 1802! By latest we ofcourse mean retro since it is a processor developed all the way back in 1976, but all the fun is still there so grab it while you can. More information about the shield available over at the gitlab.com/8bitforce/retroshield1802/.

RetroShield1802: common questions

What microcontroller does the RetroShield1802 use?

The RetroShield1802 is built around the Arduino_Mega2560_Shield, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the RetroShield1802 PCB?

The RetroShield1802 measures 99.7 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the RetroShield1802?

28 components, from 11 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the RetroShield1802 design files?

From the tebl/RetroShield1802-PCB repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the RetroShield1802 design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its LGPL-2.1 license, which tebl chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the RetroShield1802 without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
