About the Poachstopper PCB

Poachstopper is an open source PCB design by TheCodedKid, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 49 × 41 mm, with 19 components from 17 distinct parts.

Other key parts include the NE555DR-MS and LMR16006XDDCT. By type, the board carries 6 resistors, 4 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 diodes and 1 fuse.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

Relay Protection Circuit for MIT Mini Cheetah Motor

Inline soft-start for Mini Cheetah motor controllers. Stops the power-on inrush surge that kills the input caps.

Cheap MIT Mini Cheetah clones have undersized input caps and no inrush limiting. Hot-plugging a charged battery, current spike into the FETs, caps die. No good, dead cheetah.

Poach Stopper splices inline on the battery lead, pre-charges through a resistor, then hands over full current. No MCU, no firmware, no buttons.

Poachstopper: common questions

How big is the Poachstopper PCB?

The Poachstopper measures 49 × 41 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Poachstopper?

19 components, from 17 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Poachstopper design files?

From the TheCodedKid/poachstopper repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Poachstopper design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which TheCodedKid chose for the repository.
