Accessory board for pi-topCEED and pi-top laptor

NOTE: This project is a work in progress and is subject to change. See the Status section for recent changes.

This repository contains the design files and write-up for pi-top_Glimmer.

Note: I have no affiliation with pi-top other than being a customer.

The pi-top Glimmer is an accessory board for the pi-topCEED. It also fits the pi-top laptop. The board reconstitutes the Raspberry Pi GPIO connector. Unlike the pi-topPROTO the Glimmer places the connector optimally for connecting the "T-Cobbler Plus - GPIO Breakout" or the "Pi Wedge".

Pi top Glimmer: common questions

What microcontroller does the Pi top Glimmer use?

The Pi top Glimmer is built around the ATMEGA328P-AU, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Pi top Glimmer PCB?

The Pi top Glimmer measures 65 × 56 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Pi top Glimmer?

102 components, from 23 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Pi top Glimmer design files?

From the uChip/pi-top_Glimmer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Pi top Glimmer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with uChip. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Pi top Glimmer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
