About the Io board

Io board is an open source STM32 PCB design by vedderb, published on GitHub under the GPL-3.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 127 × 36.2 mm, with 82 components from 24 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32F405RGTx, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the AZ1117-3.3 and TJA1051TK-3. By type, the board carries 25 resistors, 17 capacitors, 15 connectors, 13 transistors, 8 diodes and 3 ICs.

It belongs with the rf & radio, robotics & motion and sensors designs in this gallery.

The RISE Self-Driving Model Vehicle Platform

This is the source code and hardware design for a model vehicle platform developed and maintained by the VESC project (formerly at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden). The platform has support for cars with Ackermann steering, robots with differential steering and partial support for quadcopters.

Self-Driving in this context means that the vehicles can follow a pre-programmed path outdoors accurately using RTK-GNSS. The paths can be edited using RControlStation as a set of points with different time stamps or velocities, depending on the mode. It is also possible to send paths to the…

Io board: common questions

What microcontroller does the Io board use?

The Io board is built around the STM32F405RGTx, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Io board?

The Io board measures 127 × 36.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Io board?

82 components, from 24 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Io board design files?

From the vedderb/rise_sdvp repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Io board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its GPL-3.0 license, which vedderb chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Io board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
