About the USBtin PCB

USBtin is an open source PIC PCB design by Villanut0, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 32 × 65 mm, with 21 components from 13 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the PIC18F14K50-EP, from the PIC family. Other key parts include the MCP2515-I_P and MCP2551-I-P. By type, the board carries 7 capacitors, 5 resistors, 3 ICs, 2 connectors, 2 jumpers and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the usb & debug tools designs in this gallery.

From the project

USB to CAN interface PCB

USBtin is a simple USB to CAN interface. It can monitor CAN busses and transmit CAN messages. USBtin implements the USB CDC class and creates a virtual comport on the host computer.

This PCB is a clone of the original project : USBtin

It is almost the same as the original PCB. I made it to be able to mill it easily on my cheap milling machine.

USBtin: common questions

What microcontroller does the USBtin use?

The USBtin is built around the PIC18F14K50-EP, from the PIC family.

How big is the USBtin PCB?

The USBtin measures 32 × 65 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the USBtin?

21 components, from 13 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the USBtin design files?

From the Villanut0/USBtin repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the USBtin design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with Villanut0. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the USBtin without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug PIC firmware against it before you order a PCB.
