About the LEDMusicVisualizer PCB

LEDMusicVisualizer is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by VinayBhagavath, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 61.5 × 50.3 mm, with 16 components from 7 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Arduino_Uno, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the 74HC595. By type, the board carries 6 LEDs, 5 resistors, 2 transistors, 1 IC, 1 connector and 1 capacitor.

It belongs with the displays & leds, audio and test & measurement designs in this gallery.

From the project

Reactive LED matrix music visualizer: Arduino + 74HC595 multiplexed display driven in real time by laptop-side MP3 audio analysis over serial

A 6-LED (2 row × 3 column) matrix driven by an Arduino Uno R3, reacting live to an MP3 played from a laptop — no microphone involved. The laptop analyzes the actual audio data as it plays and streams a volume level to the Arduino over serial, which displays it as a bar graph across the matrix.

Originally built and verified on a breadboard, then redesigned as a custom 2-layer PCB in KiCad for a permanent build. Both versions use identical Arduino pin connections and the exact same code.

LEDMusicVisualizer: common questions

What microcontroller does the LEDMusicVisualizer use?

The LEDMusicVisualizer is built around the Arduino_Uno, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the LEDMusicVisualizer PCB?

The LEDMusicVisualizer measures 61.5 × 50.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the LEDMusicVisualizer?

16 components, from 7 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the LEDMusicVisualizer design files?

From the VinayBhagavath/LEDMusicVisualizer repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the LEDMusicVisualizer design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with VinayBhagavath. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the LEDMusicVisualizer without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
