About the BT DC motor board

BT DC motor board is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by VinnyCordeiro, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 4-layer board measuring 99.1 × 73.7 mm, with 34 components from 18 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the Raspberry Pi Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the Black Pill STM32F401. By type, the board carries 15 connectors, 13 switches, 2 ICs, 2 diodes, 1 fuse and 1 jumper.

It belongs with the robotics & motion designs in this gallery.

IMPORTANT NOTE: this design is still untested and being modified frequently as bugs/flaws are found. Do not order PCBs yet until we say it's safe!

I designed the board to be as easy and cheap as possible; with that in mind, here are the design constraints: - All components/modules must be through hole mounted: I have professional training in electronics and the tools so SMD isn't a problem, but this isn't true for most of the hobbyists; by using through hole components the soldering complexity barrier is lowered; - All modules are to be mounted on sockets: this opens some space on the board…

BT DC motor board: common questions

What microcontroller does the BT DC motor board use?

The BT DC motor board is built around the Raspberry Pi Pico, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the BT DC motor board?

The BT DC motor board measures 99.1 × 73.7 mm, has 4 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the BT DC motor board?

34 components, from 18 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the BT DC motor board design files?

From the VinnyCordeiro/BT_DC_motor_board repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the BT DC motor board design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which VinnyCordeiro chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the BT DC motor board without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
