About the Tentacle PCB

Tentacle is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by whitebox-labs, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 146.1 × 53.3 mm, with 63 components from 16 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ARDUINO_SHIELD, from the AVR/Arduino family. By type, the board carries 21 capacitors, 19 resistors, 4 connectors and 1 switch.

It belongs with the sensors, dev boards & breakouts and science & space designs in this gallery.

From the project

An arduino shield to host and individually isolate up to 4 Atlas Scientific sensor circuits. Measure pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, ORP, temperature

Individually isolated measurement circuits and communication lines prevent noise and ground loops for precise measurements even in closed-loop systems.

If you find bug in the documentation, examples or the schematic, feel free to create an issue or even a pull request here on GitHub.

Tentacle: common questions

What microcontroller does the Tentacle use?

The Tentacle is built around the ARDUINO_SHIELD, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the Tentacle PCB?

The Tentacle measures 146.1 × 53.3 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Tentacle?

63 components, from 16 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Tentacle design files?

From the whitebox-labs/tentacle repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Tentacle design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with whitebox-labs. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Tentacle without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
