About the Windnerd-Core PCB

Windnerd-Core is an open source STM32 PCB design by windnerd-labs, published on GitHub under the CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 88 × 17.1 mm, with 25 components from 15 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the STM32G031F8Px, from the STM32 family. Other key parts include the XC6206P332MR, TMAG5273A1QDBVR and TMR1208S. By type, the board carries 9 capacitors, 6 resistors, 4 ICs, 4 diodes and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the sensors and dev boards & breakouts designs in this gallery.

WindNerd Core Wind Sensor Board - Hardware, software and documentation

The WindNerd Core is a full magnetic sensor board designed to fit inside the WindNerd 3D-printed-anemometer.

It is available as a kit, which includes the board and essential parts like magnets and bearings.

You can use it as a dedicated wind sensor module for your weather station, or as an Arduino compatible development board that can, for example:

- Control peripherals such as a LTE modem to send data remotely - Drive LEDs that blink according to wind speed and direction - Interface with other sensors (e.g., temperature, humidity, pressure)

Windnerd-Core: common questions

What microcontroller does the Windnerd-Core use?

The Windnerd-Core is built around the STM32G031F8Px, from the STM32 family.

How big is the Windnerd-Core PCB?

The Windnerd-Core measures 88 × 17.1 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Windnerd-Core?

25 components, from 15 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Windnerd-Core design files?

From the windnerd-labs/Windnerd-Core repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Windnerd-Core design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its CERN-OHL-S-2.0 license, which windnerd-labs chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the Windnerd-Core without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug STM32 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
