About the Fan adapter PCB

Fan adapter is an open source WCH CH32/CH55x PCB design by wormyrocks, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 30.1 × 69 mm, with 37 components from 17 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the CH32X035G8U6, from the WCH CH32/CH55x family. Other key parts include the SY8201ABC. By type, the board carries 15 resistors, 9 diodes, 6 capacitors, 2 ICs, 2 transistors and 2 connectors.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

USB-PD to 12V PWM fan with speed control

This is a completely untested, mostly routed PCB that uses a cheap MCU to trigger a 12V USB-PD sink, to drive a computer box fan. Entire BOM cost should only be $2-$3, no uncommon components. Might have to hand-solder the fan header. You could also use an angled fan header if you wanted.

I started designing this because I was annoyed about not having a desktop fume extractor that I could easily run off a laptop charger. I got busy / lazy and don't actually want to finish it, but if someone wants to adopt it that would be awesome! I have a handful of the CH32X035 preordered on JLCPCB, so the…

Fan adapter: common questions

What microcontroller does the Fan adapter use?

The Fan adapter is built around the CH32X035G8U6, from the WCH CH32/CH55x family.

How big is the Fan adapter PCB?

The Fan adapter measures 30.1 × 69 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Fan adapter?

37 components, from 17 distinct parts. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Fan adapter design files?

From the wormyrocks/fan-adapter repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the schematic; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Fan adapter design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with wormyrocks. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Fan adapter without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug WCH CH32/CH55x firmware against it before you order a PCB.
