About the ClockFOUR PCB

ClockFOUR is an open source AVR/Arduino PCB design by wyolum, published on GitHub under the MIT license. It is a 2-layer board measuring 210 × 228 mm, with 431 components from 33 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the ATMEGA328P, from the AVR/Arduino family. Other key parts include the DS3231N. By type, the board carries 197 capacitors, 182 LEDs, 16 resistors, 13 switches, 9 connectors and 2 ICs.

It belongs with the power & battery designs in this gallery.

From the project

RGB word clock based on ClockTHREEjr on TiM hardware

ClockFOUR is a word clock that tells time with words. It has a 14x13 matrix of letters that, when illuminated, tells time to the minute. e.g. SEVENTEEN MINUTES PAST FOUR The clock is 28 x 28 x ~2.6 cm. The main PCB is approximately 24 x 22 cm and has 182 RGB WS2812B pixels on the front. The back of the PCB contains an Arduino compatible 328P microprocessor and a DS3231 real time clock chip with 2032 battery backup. Power is provided by a quality international multi-voltage 5V 3A power supply with barrel connector.

ClockFOUR: common questions

What microcontroller does the ClockFOUR use?

The ClockFOUR is built around the ATMEGA328P, from the AVR/Arduino family.

How big is the ClockFOUR PCB?

The ClockFOUR measures 210 × 228 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the ClockFOUR?

431 components, from 33 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the ClockFOUR design files?

From the wyolum/ClockFOUR repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the ClockFOUR design in my own project?

Yes, under the terms of its MIT license, which wyolum chose for the repository.

Can I test firmware for the ClockFOUR without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug AVR/Arduino firmware against it before you order a PCB.
