About the Q9-Chimera PCB

Q9-Chimera is an open source RP2040/RP2350 PCB design by xommmmmmmm, published on GitHub. It is a 2-layer board measuring 309.6 × 76.2 mm, with 198 components from 25 distinct parts.

Its main chip is the C2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family. Other key parts include the C2897477, C2836319 and C97521. By type, the board carries 63 diodes, 16 capacitors, 11 switches, 7 resistors, 4 ICs and 1 crystal.

It belongs with the keyboards designs in this gallery.

From the project

A drop-in, multi-layout (ortho/row/alpha stagger) PCB with numpad for Keychron Q9

Q9 Chimera & Limousine are RP2040-based, drop-in, multi-layout replacement PCBs for Keychron Q9. Chimera supports ortholinear layout with central or right-hand numpad, and traditional row-stagger with right hand numpad. Limousine supports row and alpha stagger, with support for 2.25u/2.75u "Alice" bars and right-hand numpad.

Both versions support up to two independent EC11 rotary encoders in the separated key positions, and a plethora of bottom-row options.

Q9-Chimera: common questions

What microcontroller does the Q9-Chimera use?

The Q9-Chimera is built around the C2040, from the RP2040/RP2350 family.

How big is the Q9-Chimera PCB?

The Q9-Chimera measures 309.6 × 76.2 mm, has 2 copper layers and is 1.6 mm thick.

How many components are on the Q9-Chimera?

198 components, from 25 distinct parts, with part numbers taken from the project's own BOM. The full bill of materials is listed on this page.

Where can I download the Q9-Chimera design files?

From the xommmmmmmm/QueueNineChimera repository on GitHub, which has the KiCad layout, the schematic and the BOM; the links under Design files point to each one.

Can I use the Q9-Chimera design in my own project?

The repository has no license, so all rights stay with xommmmmmmm. Use it as a reference, and ask the author before reusing the design.

Can I test firmware for the Q9-Chimera without the hardware?

Yes. HardLabs builds a simulation of the board from its netlist and BOM, so you can run and debug RP2040/RP2350 firmware against it before you order a PCB.
